Farfalle, which means 'butterfly' in Italian, originated in the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions of northern Italy in the 1500s. Today, Barilla's classic Farfalle stays true to tradition with square pieces of pasta that are pinched in the middle to mimic the shape of a butterfly. Served hot or cold, this short pasta was made for light and delicate vegetable-based sauces, as well as in soups, salads and casseroles. Part of our Classic Blue Box range, which means perfect, quality ’al dente’ pasta every time, our Farfalle cooks in just 10 minutes. Simply bring water to a boil in a large pot, add the Farfalle, and a generous pinch of sea salt to the cooking water to enhance the pasta's flavour. For authentic ’al dente’ pasta, boil uncovered, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes. Drain well and serve immediately with your favourite Barilla sauce.
